Inscription.  German:

The M59 was introduced into the US Army in 1954. It was primarily a personnel carrier capable of transporting ten infantrymen to the combat area in addition to the commander and driver. The entire rear could be hydraulically opened and sealed watertight. This was a great advantage, because it could swim through calm inland waters without any special preparations. The tracks propelled the vehicle at 7 km/h in the water.
Elvis Presley was in command of an M59 during his military service in Germany.

Year of manufacture: 1955

The M59 was an American armored personnel carrier that entered service in the spring of 1954 replacing the M75. It had three key advantages over the M75: it was amphibious, had a lower profile, and was considerably cheaper to produce. Production ended in 1960, by which time approximately 6,300 had been built. The M84 Mortar Carrier was a derivative of the M59. The M59 was replaced in service by the M113 family of vehicles.
