12th Arrondissement City Hall concerning the dedication of the memorial on Dec. 15, 2018. Excerpts (in translation) concerning the three hostages:
Raymond Ballet… He was arrested on March 10, 1942 by the French police and handed over to the Germans who put him in the Cherche-Midi prison and transferred him in August 1942 to the Romainville camp. He was designated as a hostage with 45 other Resistance fighters in retaliation for the attacks against the German army in September 1942.

Octave Lamand…Born on December 10, 1908 in Lille, shot as a hostage on December 15, 1941 in Caen. He was a communist activist and carpenter in Boulogne-Billancourt where he distributed leaflets. Arrested on July 15, 1941 at 58 rue Traversière, he was sentenced on August 27, 1941 at the first session of the Special Section of Paris to 15 years of forced labor. He was transferred to the Caen Central Prison to serve his sentence. He was one of the 95 hostages from the northern zone shot on December 15, 1941 in retaliation for the actions against the German army in October and November in Paris.

Hermann Schipke…Born on June 30, 1921 in Darmstadt, Germany,

shot as a hostage on December 15, 1941 at Mont Valérien. He lived with his Jewish family of Polish nationality at 58 rue Traversière. A communist activist, he was arrested in the act while sticking posters on a wall on rue de Lyon (12th arrondissement) on October 4, 1940. He was sentenced to 6 weeks in prison for communist propaganda. At the end of his sentence, he was transferred to the Drancy camp. He was one of the 95 hostages shot at Mont Valérien on December 15, 1941. His father and mother, who also lived on rue Traversière, were arrested during the "Vel d'Hiv" roundups in July 1942. They died in deportation.
