Regarding Alder Court Apartments. Designed by Henry M. Kropff (his name is misspelled “Kroff” on the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation plaque on the building), he also designed several other buildings around Pittsburgh, mostly residential homes in upper class neighborhoods. The property's court is its primary feature and includes a gated garden, trees and artwork featuring the coat of arms of the Bayard family. The apartments were built on what had been the John B. Bayard estate. Alder Courts Apartments was designated a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark in 1975.
