1. Ernest Whitworth Marland (Wikipedia).
Excerpt: American lawyer, oil businessman in Pennsylvania and later Oklahoma, and politician who was a United States Representative and 10th Governor of Oklahoma. Marland made his earlier fortunes in oil in Pennsylvania in the early 1900s and more later in Oklahoma during the 1920s.(Submitted on December 25, 2024, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)Marland supported President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal programs from the beginning of his presidential administration. Through association with the popular FDR, Marland was elected in 1932 to the United States House of Representatives to represent Oklahoma's 8th congressional district in the northern part of the state.
On January 15, 1935, Marland was inaugurated as the tenth governor. Governor Marland quickly instituted a program that would become known as the "Little New Deal". Marland's term as governor ended after four years on January 9, 1939. Through more than 1,300 WPA projects, he had created jobs for more than 90,000 Oklahomans.

Excerpt: The Pioneer Woman monument is a bronze sculpture in Ponca City, Oklahoma, designed by Bryant Baker and dedicated on April 22, 1930. The statue is of a sunbonneted woman leading a child by the hand. It was donated to the State of Oklahoma by millionaire oilman E. W. Marland. He commissioned models from twelve well-known sculptors and financed a nationwide tour to get feedback from art critics and the general public in order to decide which model to use for the final statue.(Submitted on December 25, 2024, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
