The United Nations' International Day of Peace is held annually on September 21 to encourage individuals, organizations, and governments to end conflict and promote peace within and among all peoples and nations. It is a global call for ceasefire and non-violence and a day to strengthen the ideals of peace and alleviate tensions and causes of conflict through education and public awareness.

Japanese poet, philosopher, and writer Masahisa Goi founded worldwide movement of world peace following his traumatic experience of World War II. He believed that a uniting and positive effect on all humanity would result if we put all our thoughts and efforts into the message

"May Peace Prevail on Earth"

These words carry an elevated and harmonious meaning that transcends religious, ethnic, and political boundaries. Peace Poles inscribed with this message in various languages exist on every continent, both in ordinary places and in places o1 conflict Where the are constant reminders and witnesses to the hope for peace.

This Peace Pole is dedicated to the community of Flagstaff (a Golden Rule City), the Hopi Tribe, and all organizations and individuals who contribute to the well-being of others.
