Caster Cabin

1. Caster Cabin Marker

Inscription. Henry Caster was born in Shady Grove, Texas, in 1858. His parents had come to this area from Illinois in 1853. He and his son Edmond built a log cabin in 1887 near the northwest corner of today's Belt Line and Shady Grove roads. The dog-run cabin had two rooms with an open hall between them. Edmond's daughter, Mabel Caster Miller, acquired the cabin sometime after 1956 and moved it to the east side of Compton Road just south of Pioneer Road. It was damaged by fire in 1980. Carol Susat salvaged the surviving logs, and the Irving Heritage Society used those logs and additional materials to build this cabin in 1988. The structure contains some of its original furnishings.
