1. Britain Family Marker

Inscription. Henry Britain and his parents came to this area from Virginia in 1859. In 1874, he married Sarah Caster, whose family had arrived in 1852. They bought land and built a farmhouse near the intersection of today's Perry and Nursery Roads.

The Britains provided a campsite to a crew that came in 1902 to survey a railroad route between Dallas and Ft. Worth. After crew members J.O. Schulze and Otis Brown decided to establish a town here, the Britains sold them 80.21 acres of land of which they founded the town of Irving in 1903.

Britain Road is named for the Britain family. Lee Britain Elementary School is named in honor of the Britains' son, Lee, who served on the Irving School Board for many years.
