1. St. Luke Catholic Church Marker
Inscription. Roman Catholic settlers came to this area in the 1850s. By 1902, they had founded the Mission of St. Luke. The founders of Irving donated property at the southeast corner of Second and Jefferson streets to St. Luke the following year. The community built a white frame structure at this location in 1904. To accommodate its increasing membership, St. Luke built a brick church at the northeast corner of Fifth St. and Iowa St. (now O'Connor Rd.) in 1928. In 1954, the church's continuing growth led to the construction of a larger building on Perch Hill Rd. (now MacArthur Blvd.) at Schulze Dr. The Catholic community of St. Luke built the present sanctuary on the same property in 1988.

Erected 2003 by City of Irving.
