Main Street. Though somewhat altered in the twentieth century, its early construction date is suggested by its one-story form topped by a low gable roof with wide overhanging eaves, the classically-inspired front portico with flush-sheathed siding, the double-leaf front door with sidelights and transom, the wide center hall interior plan and simple Greek Revival style mantels.

The house is believed to have been bult in the third quarter of the 19th century by William A. Estes, who owned a lot of land in the Mount Airy vicinity. A later owner was W. H. Spain who may have replaced the windows on the main elevation in the 1930s.
