2. Mount Airy Friends Church Marker to the right of the sanctuary entrance on South Main
features wood-shingled gables with decorative exposed truss system, corner crenallated tower, and large stained glass tracery windows. The Quakers' settled in Surry County about 1769. They had established a church in Mount Airy by the end of the 19th century and had sponsored a school in the Surry County community of Westfield early in that century.
