1. Die “lateinisch Schul” Marker
Inscription.

Until the end of the 18th century, the site of the municipal Latin or private school, first mentioned in the middle of the 13th century. Probably identical to the house of the Freiburg schoolmaster Walter von Breisach, mentioned in documents in 1291. Rebuilt several times and destroyed in 1944.

The tradition of the municipal Latin school, but also of the Pädagogium founded by the university in 1572 and the Gymnasium academicum established by the Jesuits in 1622, continued in the Grand Ducal Baden Gymnasium opened in 1866, later the Lyceum and today's Berthold-Gymnasium.

This plaque commemorates 750 years of the Latin school in Freiburg 1250 - 2000.
