1. Les Ponts Couverts Marker
Inscription. La Ville Libre de Strasbourg décide, vers 1300, d'obturer son front ouest, très vulnérable du fait de la division de l'Ill en plusieurs canaux. On y jette des ponts-galeries couverts d'une toiture fermés par une paroi de bois côté assaillant. Pour les défendre, des tours de brique. puis des ouvrages bastionnés.

Si ces ponts font place en 1784 à de simples passerelles de bois sur pilotis, remplacées en 1865 par les actuels ponts de pierre. ils demeurent pour les Strasbourgeois les "Ponts Couverts".

Built around 1300, the defensive bridges with their roofs and galleries were replaced in 1865 by the stone bridges we see today but which are still known as the “Ponts Couverts” (Covered Bridges)

Die um 1300 zu Verteidigungszwecken errichteter überdachte Brücke wurde 1865 durch die heutige Steinbrücke ersetzt. Der Name “Ponts Couverts" (Gedeckte Brücken) wurde beibehalten.
