1. Sam "Wahoo" Crawford Marker

Inscription.
On March 5, 1911, here at Whittington Park, the man who remains the leader in triples (312) in Major League history played in an exhibition game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and a group of American League All-Stars. “Wahoo” blasted two doubles, one of his trademark triples, and a home run. In the same game, Walter Johnson pitched three scoreless innings in an 11-1 victory.

2. Sam "Wahoo" Crawford Marker
pounds. Born in Wahoo, Nebraska, he had a short minor league baseball career before rapidly rising to the majors with the Cincinnati Reds in 1899. Taking advantage of the competition for players between the National League and the then-ascendant American League, Crawford then joined the Detroit Tigers and played for Detroit, primarily in right field, from 1903 to 1917. He was one of the greatest sluggers of his era, leading his league in home runs twice and in runs batted in three times.

2. Sam Crawford (National Baseball Hall of Fame).

Excerpt: The 1917 season marked the final big league campaign for Crawford, who led the league in triples six times, home runs twice, RBI three times, total bases twice and once each in runs and doubles. For his career, he batted .309 over 19 seasons. He stole 367 bases, drove in 1,523 runs, scored 1,391 runs, hit 458 doubles and rang up 2,961 hits. “My idea of batting is a thing that should be done unconsciously,” Crawford said. “If you get to studying it too much, you will miss it altogether.” Crawford
