In the context of the partnership between the City of Strasbourg and the Council of Europe, Strasbourg places great importance on the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Luxembourg, one of the ten founding States of the Council of Europe, joined the Organisation on 5th May 1949 and will hold its eighth Presidency of the Committee of Ministers from 13th November 2024 to 14th May 2025. The Presidency of Luxembourg, with the support of the City of Strasbourg, has prepared a cultural programme that you can discover on the website: https://stras.me/presidence-luxembourg

It was here, in the Strasbourg town hall, that the first meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe took place on 8th August 1949. The Committee of Ministers is the decision-making body of the Council of Europe. It is composed of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the 46 member States or their Permanent Representatives in Strasbourg. The Presidency of the Committee of Ministers is renewed by rotation every 6 months, following the English alphabetical order of the Organisation's member States.

Pour mémoire, c'est ici, à l'Hôtel de Ville de Strasbourg, que s'est tenue le 8 août 1949 la première réunion du Comité des Ministres du Conseil de l'Europe. Composé des Ministres des Affaires Étrangères des 46 Etats membres, ou de leurs Représentants Permanents à Strasbourg, le Comité des Ministres est l'instance de décision du Conseil de l'Europe. Sa Présidence se renouvelle par rotation tous les six mois, selon l'ordre alphabétique anglais des Etats membres de I’Organisation.
