Quartier de la Cathédrale in Strasbourg in Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Lorraine, Champagne-Ardenne, France — Western Europe
Since the 14th century, this building has been the property and headquarters of the Foundation de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame, responsible for collecting funds for the construction of the Cathedral, as well as for the management of the assets that have been bequeathed over the centuries by donors to reinvest them in the conservation of the magnificent building.
This foundation, administered since the 13th century by the mayor of the City of Strasbourg, is still today made up of around forty people. They continue to work with monument historians to carry out maintenance and restoration work on the Cathedral, thanks to the enormous wealth of its documentary collection and the know-how of its staff and its craftsmen (stonemasons, sculptors, etc.)
Since 1931, this building has also housed a museum of the City of Strasbourg, which brings together magnificent collections ranging from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, including a certain number of originals of the most famous sculptures adorning the Cathedral.
