Dee Murphree Popcorn and Peanut Stand

Inscription.
Prior to 1900, the buildings on this side of the square were frame buildings. Dee Murphree had a popcorn and peanut stand here on a vacant lot in the early 1900s. Peeler's Drug Store located in this building in the mid-1920s, later moving across the square. Burn's Soda Fountain was in the building before being sold to Celeste Thompson in 1950, who opened Courtesy Drugs. Centerville Pharmacy replaced Courtesy Drugs in the late 1970's, then Coast to Coast Home and Auto occupied the space, along with the building next door. Snappy's Pizza was the next occupant. The building was completely renovated in 2022, returning in large part to its original look. Heritage Bank opened in the building in 2023, remaining until their new building on Highway 100 was completed.
