Inscription. Known as the Walker Building, 207 East Public Square was built in 1881 by Clint McClannahan, replacing a grocery store which burned in the 1873 fire. It originally had a two-story covered porch and the rear section contained living quarters. Adair Groceries was an early occupant of the building, and a taxi service was located here in the early 1920s. Basketball games were played in the building in 1927 and it housed exhibits for the Hickman County Fair when it was held on the square. Bates & Company Grocery occupied the building from the 1930s until 1966. Cecil Staggs then opened S & S Bi Rite Grocery, closing in 1978. In the 1980s through 1990s, Coast to Coast Home & Auto occupied the building. Broken Kettle Antiques moved in next, and The Gallimaufry opened in 2016.
