Inscription. Bill Clagett built a large two-story frame house here, which was later occupied by the Lon Bates family, then became Murphy Boarding House. The house was torn down, and the present brick building built sometime before 1949. Western Auto moved to this location from just across the street in 1949, remaining under the ownership of Ralph and Elizabeth Johnson for more than 50 years. The building remained under ownership of the Johnson family, and the business became Johnson's J 3, signifying the third generation of the family. Cotton and Lace opened in 2016.
