1. Derryberry Drug Store marker
Inscription. Derryberry Drug Store was the first recorded business at this location. It is believed to have started in a frame building. This brick building was constructed shortly after 1900 by C.A. Horner. Derryberry sold the business, and it was renamed Liberty Pharmacy, eventually moving from this location to the south side of the square. It became home to Peeler Brothers general merchandise in 1919 and was completely remodeled inside in 1953. The store was in business for forty years before being sold in 1959 and being renamed Brown and Duncan Cash Store. Pace's Department Store opened in 1971 and closed in 2004. The stars on the outside of the upper story indicate that earthquake rods were installed to reinforce the building.
