1. Thompson's Dry Goods Building marker

Inscription. This lot was occupied by the frame home of Dr. Samuel Moore, known as the Moore Mansion, in the mid 1800's. It also housed the Centreville post office. The house was torn down around 1900 when T.S. Colley and Sons began this two-story brick building and sold it to William Douglas Thompson before completion. The stars across the top indicate "earthquake rods" which help stabilize the building. Established in 1886 across the square, Thompson's Dry Goods occupied this building until 1993 and had the distinction of being the oldest continuous business in the city. Hunter's Blacksmith Shop was located just behind Thompson's. Family Clothiers occupied the space beginning in 1993. It was purchased and remodeled by Signage Corporation in 1998. Later occupants were Clover and Iron Gifts, Griffith's Law Office, and Faithworks Embroidery.
