Inscription. A large frame house originally stood here, occupied by the I.A. Hunter family. The Hunters owned all the land between that house to the Duck River on the east side of what was then called Bridge Road. The first known business at this location was the Hunter Blacksmith Shop, which also repaired wagons, tools and had a small grist meal for grinding corn and wheat. Farmers would hitch their horses and mules in the alley between the blacksmith shop and the buildings on the west side of the square while they visited the square. In 1937, McClannahan Motors, a Ford dealership, was built in this spot, with a showroom that faced North Central Avenue. It closed around 1970 and was replaced by Karco Auto Parts. Prince Hardware moved into the building in 1976. The building was enlarged and covered with metal siding..
