1. Toon Cottage Marker
Inscription. One of twin Queen Anne style front-gabled cottages built as rental properties for William Pinckney Toon (1857-1942), native of Whiteville, NC, bookkeeper Worth & Worth grocers; and wife, Emily Mae Glenn (1864-1920), native of Rochester, NY, veteran First World War soldiers' civilian support at Fort Caswell. First occupied by Coleman Twining (1836-1900), architect, builder; and wife, Mary Elizabeth Towson (1840-1920), natives of Lancaster, PA. Cottage remained in the Toon family for forty-seven years.
