Regarding La Grange Village Hall. The NRHP registration form for this building, approved in 1978, calls it the "Town Hall for Lyons Township" and notes that it is a rare example of an Illinois township erecting a town hall. The building today is the village hall for La Grange, a municipality of about 15,000 people located within Lyons Township; the present-day township building is on Joliet Road in Countryside, about 3 miles south of here. Illinois townships provide road maintenance in unincorporated areas, and they provide services to people in need (and, outside of Cook County, they also often serve as property assessors).
