1. Pratt Institute Library Marker

Inscription. This Renaissance Revival Building, designed by William B. Tubby in 1896, was the first free public library in the City of Brooklyn. The building evolved from Charles Pratt's belief that the best way to help others was to teach them how to help themselves. The red brick structure is distinguished by its rusticated base, arched windows and rhythmic balustrated parapet.

Erected 1989 by New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation.
