Inscription. A large frame house was built on this lot in the late 1800s, occupied by the R.M. Clagett family until 1903. Dannelly Jewelry Shop was in a section on the first floor. The house was replaced by this brick building, where J.D. Hickman opened an auto repair business, succeeded by J.T. Blackwell Auto, Colley Autos and H & A Motor Company. Ladd Bus Lines occupied the building in the 1940s with openings on the east side where buses pulled inside. Youngs Department Store opened here around 1953 and remained until 1980 when it became Kent's Department Store and then Fran's Department Store. Other businesses were Grinders Switch Realty, The Outlet Store and Full House Furnishings. At various times, the building was divided into two spaces. Farmhouse Florist and Restaurant, Shop 'Til It Stops and Hope on the Square occupied this building in the 2000s.
