Inscription. Gilbert & Helen married in 1958 and raised a family of four children - Robert, Cella, Julianne, Michelle and have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gibert moved to Roseville in 1956 to be a teacher in the Roseville City School District. Gilbert continued to teach in the Roseville City School District for over 30 years. His career in public service continued as he served two terms on the Roseville City Council between the years 1972-1978. Gilbert served twelve years as a board member for the Roseville City School District. His contributions continued as a subtitute teacher in neighboring school districts during this time.

Together with Harold "Bizz" Johnson, Gilbert started an anti-poverty program in Roseville and the programs spread to Lincoln, Auburn, and Colfax. These programs also focused on the English language and citizenship.

Along with his wife Helen, Gilbert, an avid runner, formed and coached the Roseville Gazelles - a local youth sports team. The team was recognized for multiple state and national victories. Gilbert now spends his free time painting, traveling and hosting taco parties.

K. Duran contributed to and served in a number of public service groups. Helen was a teacher for the Roseville City School District for over 30 years. After retirement, she served on the Roseville City School District Board for six years. Helen helped start the Roseville Junior Women's Club. She was also a long time member of the District Teachers Association and Negotiation Team. She was a member of the Placer County Retired Teacher's Club which aided in scholarships to high school students. The club continues to offer scholarships in Helen's name after her passing in 2008. It has been said that being a mother and teacher were Helen's cornerstone.

It was a passion and joy for both Gilbert and Helen to be in a profession that benefited youth in the community. Their life-long service and dedication to improving the quality of life for youth in the community is appreciated by all.
