Inscription. The first known business on this lot was the T.J. Walker Grocery, which burned in 1873. It was replaced by a two-story brick building which housed Nixon Grocery and the Nixon School of Music on the second floor. During music lessons if the windows were open, the music could be heard across the square. After the 1930 fire, which destroyed the building and its contents, the current building was constructed by A.C. Bishop. Ideal Grocery, then Pewitt's Grocery occupied the building in the late 1930's and 1940's, followed by Bates 5 & 10 in the 1950's. Later occupants were Family Shoe Shop, Bonanza Sales, and Dee's Novelty Shop. New China Restaurant was located here beginning around 2001, followed by Snappy's Pizza. Rebecca Bates purchased the building in 2014 and opened B Squared Antiques. After its closing, the Veteran's Services located in this building.
