In diesem Straßenzug (damals „Straße in die Neue Vor- stadt“) wohnte Christoph Graupner (1683-1760), der bedeutendste Hofkapellmeister der älteren Darmstädter Residenzgeschichte, über ein Jahrzehnt bis zu seinem Tod. Nach Stationen in Leipzig und Hamburg kam der in Kirchberg/Sachsen geborene Graupner 1709 nach Darm: stadt. 1722 bewarb er sich, weit über die Residenz hinaus berühmt, um das Leipziger Thomaskantorat. Landgraf Ernst Ludwig vereitelte dies, so dass in Leipzig J.S. Bach zum Zug kam. Damit band der Fürst Graupner dauerhaft an den Darmstädter Hof. Hier schrieb Graupner mehr als 1400 Kantaten für die Sonntagsgottesdienste in der Schlosskapelle und komponierte einen großen Teil der Musik für die Hofgesellschaft, darunter Instrumental- musik, Opern und Gratulationsmusiken.

came to Darmstadt in 1709. In 1722, famous far beyond the residence, he applied for the post of Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Landgrave Ernst Ludwig thwarted this, so that J.S. Bach was chosen in Leipzig. Prince Graupner thus tied Graupner permanently to the Darmstadt court. Here Graupner wrote more than 1400 cantatas for the Sunday services in the palace chapel and composed a large part of the music for the court society, including instrumental music, operas and congratulatory music.
