Ici avant 1914 existaient encore les ruines d'une ancienne petite chapelle dite "Chapelle Ste Fine". C'est le point où sont venues se briser les dernières vagues d'assaut allemandes le 25 juin 1916. Dans un massif et suprême effort les allemands avaient engagé 50000 hommes sur 6 kilomètres de front après une énorme préparation d'artillerie.

Cependant, risquant encore une tentative désespérée le 12 juillet, ils lancèrent une offensive localisée contre le fort de Souville. ils y furent définitivement vaincus.

Le 24 octobre suivant, une grande contre- offensive française permit de reprendre en un jour le terrain perdu y compris le fort de Douaumont qui avait été enlevé par les allemands le 25 février.

Here before 1914 there still existed the ruins of an old small chapel called "Chapelle St. Fine". This is the point where the last waves of German assault came to a halt on June 25, 1916. In a massive and supreme effort the Germans had committed 50,000 men on 6 kilometers of front after an enormous artillery preparation.

on July 12, they launched a localized offensive against the fort of Souville. They were definitively defeated there.

On the following October 24, a major French counteroffensive made it possible to retake the lost ground in one day, including the fort of Douaumont, which had been taken by the Germans on February 25.
