More about this memorial. The nearby dedication plaque identified the area as the former Bowen Rodeo Grounds. The rodeo began in 1948 and continued until the rodeo arena was dismantled after the 2002 event. According to the plaque, the arena, designed by Col Bowen, was dedicated to him in June 1982. Col. Bowen died in February 1981.
