1. Stony Creek: An Historic Village Marker

Inscription.
Discovered in the mid-19th Century, the strength and beauty of Stony Creek granite made it much in demand for many types of construction. Quarries sprang up to supply the unique pink granite for bridges, buildings and monuments.

By the start of the 20th Century, the tourist trade was flourishing. Visitors arrived by train, trolley and ferry boat to enjoy the shoreline attractions, the fresh seafood and water sports. Gracious Victorian hotels were built to accommodate the summer influx.

Entertainment has long been part of Stony Creek life. For over 130 years, the award-winning Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps has played at parades, musters and special occasions. From 1903 until WWII, the Stony Creek Theater presented films and plays. It became a Puppet House in the 1960's.
