Inscription.
Built in 1860 for ice dealer Col. Abel W. Bosworth, this striking Italianate style residence, featuring an elegant central curve, was designed by noted architect Thomas Kelah Wharton. The service wing of the house was constructed utilizing the pre-1844 home of Andres and Sophia Anderson, which originally occupied the lot. Anderson operated a successful dairy on the adjoining property until his death in 1854. Cotton and steamship agent Lucas E. Moore acquired the current residence from the heirs of Bosworth in 1886, and then sold it to ship agent William J. Hammond in 1890. The Hammond family held ownership for nearly 90 years, retaining much of the historic integrity of the home. Alma Hammond, the last survivor of the Hammond family, willed it to former member of the Louisiana State Legislature Bland Cox Bruns upon her death in 1979. In 2000, Becca Selvidge Fox and John MacGregor Fox, Jr. Purchased the home from the Bruns family. At the time of purchase the home was in a severe state of deterioration and they worked diligently to undertake a complete restoration of the property.
