George Town, Cayman Islands, British Overseas Territories
Hon. Thomas William Farrington, CBE, JP
(June 25, 1900 - May 13, 1978)
He helped to establish what is today the John Gray High School and was instrumental in the development of the Cayman Islands' first airport. A key contributor to discussions regarding local participation in the West Indies Federation, he was among the first to be elected to the Executive Council after the first Constitution was introduced in 1959.
In 1965, he became the first Caymanian to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the British Empire.
He was named "Father of the House" for his lengthy and continuous service in the Legislative Assembly, as much as for his wisdom and insight in matters of public interest.
Declared a National Hero in 2011.
