De in natuursteen opgetrokken gelijkvloerse verdieping is van de 13 de eeuw. De eerste verdieping werd tussen 1525 en 1530 in laatgotische stijl in baksteen gebouwd. Tot begin 20ste eeuw werd op de benedenverdieping vlees verkocht. Op de eerste verdieping was tot 1796 de St.-Michielsgilde gevestigd. Van 1857 tot 1973 was het Stedelijk Museum er ondergebracht.
