Tucked in the trees, nestled on the corner of Boise State University's campus sits a little white chapel with a rich history, dating back more than 150 years. It is visible to anyone who drives by, and houses memories for hundreds if not thousands of couples in the Treasure Valley and beyond.(Submitted on February 18, 2025, by Douglass Halvorsen of Klamath Falls, Oregon.)
Originally built in 1866, Christ Chapel is considered to be Boise's oldest standing chapel. It was initially constructed on 7th and Bannock Streets, and was called St. Michael's Church in honor ofReverend St. Michael Fackler. According to historians, Fackler died soon after the church was finished, while treating people who became sick with cholera while on a ship.
In the coming decades, the chapel would be moved twice: first to the corner of 15th and Ridenbaugh Streets in the early 1900's, and then again to its current location at Boise State in 1963. Since being moved to its final destination, the chapel has been used continually for hundreds of weddings, funerals and other events.
