Inscription.

Johann (Martin) Schlaad was born on November 11, 1822 in Kestert am Rhein. He is first documented as an organ builder in the Waldlaubersheim workshop in 1844. On December 31, 1850, the Catholic Schlaad married Anna Maria, the daughter of Friedrich Engers, in Windesheim.

Around 1854, Friedrich Engers withdrew from the workshop. Schlaad was now solely responsible for running it. The residential and workshop building (Windesheimer Str. 6 and 8) can still be visited today (winery with wine tavern Paulus).

Johann Schlaad died on November 16, 1892, a few days after his 70th birthday. Under Johann Schlaad's leadership, the Waldlaubersheim workshop reached its heyday. The area of work and distribution expanded considerably. It roughly covered the area of today's Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Two organs were delivered to emigrant communities in Brazil. One of the instruments still plays in Porto Alegre today. The Waldlaubersheim workshop only built organs with mechanical slider chests. Even towards the end of his career, when other wind chest systems were already "modern", Schlaad remained true to this system, which dominated almost all organ building from the 15th to the 18th century, as well as organ building today.

new instruments can be documented as being built by Johann Schlaad. Between 1860 and 1870 alone, over 20 new organs were built.

Due to the solid construction of the organs and the quality of the materials used, 40 works by the Waldlaubersheim organ builders have survived.

On November 19, 1892, he was the first Catholic to be buried in the cemetery in Waldlaubersheim.

On the occasion of the installation of the memorial plaque on March 11, 2006 at the Martins Church in Waldlaubersheim, the local community of Waldlaubersheim would like to thank the donors (Kultur vor Ort e.V., Protestant Church, Weingut Paulus and individual donations).
