Pte John William Ogley. Liverpool Scottish. , Pte John William Ogley, Battalion York and Lancashire Regiment, 22736, 21 years old, disappeared near to this spot in Railway Wood on the night of 21st/22nd April 1916. He and 35 other men were on a routine reconnaissance patrol. None of the patrol returned and no bodies were ever found. , His name and the names of comrades are commemorated on the Menin Gate., [Laminated Poster] , Liverpool Scottish , Captain Reyman McKinnell, aged 25, was killed in Hooge on June 16, 1915 while leading his company in a charge. Commissioned in 1908 in the Liverpool Scottish, he previously held a commission in the Galloway Rifles. McKinney was promoted to the captaincy of Y company at the front on January 5th, and had been with his regiment in France since November 1914. In commercial life, he was associated with Mssrs. Shipton, Anderson and Co. Corn Brokers, Liverpool. He was a member of the Birkenhead Park Rugby Football Club, and took a keen interest in athletics generally. Captain McKinnell was mentioned in Sir John French’s dispatches, and in the King’s Birthday Honors, he was awarded the Military Cross for distinguished conduct., He was in the first wave of the 9th Brigade First Attack on Bellewaarde in the Ypres Salient when he was killed. He would have been serving with the 1st/10th (Liverpool Scottish) Battalion, The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) and the fact he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial probably means his body was never found or identified.
