Inscription. In 1874 Harvey North, a wealthy real estate investor, and wife Catherine built "Bellevue" overlooking the Colorado River. In 1894 Major Ira Evans hired Texas courthouse designer Alfred Giles to enlarge it. Giles' rusticated limestone arcade, castellations and decorative eastern entrance reinforced the castle imagery begun by the Norths.
