Daniel D. McArthur (1820-1908)
St. George Pioneer and Community Leader
Daniel was born in upper New York State, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and migrated with the Saints to Kirtland, Ohio, then to Missouri and then to Nauvoo, Illinois. He crossed the plains in 1849 to Salt Lake City, Utah. His life of faith spent in service to God and to his fellow man;
First mission to Great Britain (1852-1859): President of the Dundee, Scotland Conference.
Leader on the emigration ship Enoch Train from Bristol to America.
Captain of the second handcart company to Utah (1856).
Major in the Utah Militian during the Utah War of 1857.
Colonel in the Militia during the Indians Wars in southern Utah.
Second mission to Great Britain (1877-1878): leader in the Manchester Conference.
To the St. George community and to his posterity, Daniel D. left a legacy of honesty, hard work and a determination to succeed.
