1. Middletown Marker
Inscription. The village of Middletown was founded by Hiram S. Allen on October 13, 1832. It is the oldest town in Logan County. Logan County was created out of Sangamon County in 1839.

Abraham Lincoln, then living in New Salem, witnessed the deed to the first lot sold in the new community in June of 1833.

The new town was a stage coach stop midway on the route between Peoria and Springfield.

In June, 1837 Daniel Webster spoke to school children in Middletown. Webster was then on his famous western tour.

The new community laid out two race tracks. Horse races were held twice a year for two weeks each period.

Erected 1982 by Middletown Sesquicentennial Committee, Inc. and Logan County Tourism Committee.
