1. Crown Tailors Marker
Inscription. “Now, if you want to be draped in shape and hep on down, get your frantic fronts at Crown! crooned Dr. Hepcat, Laveda Durst, on the radio in 1945. “That's Crown Tailors, 408 East Sixth Street, in beautiful downtown Austin!" Hyman Samuelson had just returned from the war in the Pacific, started his haberdashery shop and prospered. Emblematic of mercantile East Sixth Street, Crown Tailors symbolized the street's comfortable blend of many races. Hyman Samuelson was an active Austinite - an actor in movies, an author, and a pivotal figure in raising contributions for the building of the Dell Jewish Community Center. He was truly “the merchant prince of Sixth Street."

Erected by City of Austin.
