Zur Goldene Krone
⎯⎯⎯
Schustergasse 18
The three-storey, half-timbered corner house has existed since the middle of the 17th century.
In 1890, the building was given its current unifying cladding in the form of an elaborately designed plaster facade. The decorative window frames, the rusticated ground floor and the masks made in 1894 show the formal language of the end of historicism.
The building has been used as a restaurant since 1681.
In 1756, it came into the possession of the famous Darmstadt brewing family Wiener.
The "Krone" was the only house in the old town to survive the bombing of 1944 relatively unscathed. In 1994, the dormer windows on the south side were reconstructed.
Erected by Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt.

The Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Krone (“Golden Crown Inn”) was built in 1681 and is one of the oldest inns in Darmstadt. In 1890, the original half-timbering was given a new façade in the style of early historicism. The entire ground floor appears to be the building's solid base area thanks to the imitation stone block rustication. In 1894, the sculptor Wagner made the masks on the keystones above the windows and doors.(Submitted on February 26, 2025.)
The first floor forms the main floor. The main floor has two continuous cornices in the parapet area and horizontal roofs above the windows.
The Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Krone was slightly damaged in the Second World War. After the war, the roof was rebuilt in a simplified form. An ornate, wrought-iron lantern bracket with a coat of arms and a crown has also been preserved.
