The Canadians at Passchendaele 26 October to 10 November 1917
In the First World War, the Canadian Corps established itself as one of the best offensive. formations in the British Expeditionary Force. At Passchendaele, on the very ground you stand on today, Canadians from every corner of the country, including First Nations people and soldiers from every immigrant culture, reinforced a hard won reputation for victory in battle, which came at a heavy cost. The Corps took 16,000 casualties here, nearly 4,000 of whom were killed, in the bloodiest fight in Canadian military history. From Crest Farm behind you, along this road to the Passchendaele Church, Canadians fought for almost 10 Days to cover only 700 meters. On November 10th, they captured the Village of Passchendaele.
Never Forgotten
