1. Kasieeldumeinen na de Oorlog Marker
Na de oorlog bleef van de kasteeldomeinen weinig over. Van de 50 kastelen waren er maar 4 niet beschadigd, 11 waren beschadigd maar werden hersteld, al dan niet in dezelfde stijl. 35 andere kastelen werden alle totaal vernietigd. Op 18 domeinen verschenen nieuwe gebouwen, die echter fundamenteel afweken van het oorspronkelijke kasteel. 17 andere domeinen verdwenen helemaal. Met uitzondering van een vijftal domeinen, verschoof voor alle kastelen ook de functie. Vandaag vinden we op de vooroorlogse domeinen landbouwexploitatie, bosgebied, privéwoning met gedeeltelijke verkaveling, gastenverblijven, een zorgcentrum, een watertoren, een klooster, een golfclub, een pretpark. In een aantal domeinen zijn de sporen van de oorlog nog zeer aanwezig, hetzij als oorlogsrelict, hetzij als begraafplaatsen.
Après le conflit, il ne subsiste pas grand-chose des châteaux et de leurs domaines. Des 50 châteaux seuls quatre ont été épargnés; onze ont été endommagés, mais vont être restaurés, dans le même style ou non. Sur dix-huit domaines, de nouveaux édifices seront construits, tout différents cependant du bâtiment d'origine. Dix-sept autres domaines disparaissent totalement. À l'exception de cinq domaines, tous changent de fonction. Sur leur emplacement actuel, nous trouvons aujourd'hui une exploitation agricole, un bois, un terrain privé partiellement loti, des séjours d'hôtes, un centre de soins, un château d'eau, un couvent, un club de golf et un parc d'attraction. Les traces de la guerre sont encore bien présentes à certains endroits, que ce soit sous forme de vestiges ou de cimetières.
After the war, very little remained of the castles and their estates. Of the 50 castles only four were undamaged. Eleven others were damaged, but could be repaired. A further 35 were destroyed completely. New buildings were constructed on 18 of these 35 estates, but the new structures were very different from the pre-war castles they replaced. The remaining 17 estates were never reclaimed and disappeared from history. With just five exceptions, the post-war castles fulfilled new and different functions, in comparison with 1914. Today, these sites are now used for agriculture, forestry, residential housing, holiday accommodation, a care centre, a water tower, a convent and a fun park In some of the old estates the scars of war are still visible, either in the form of historical relics or as military cemeteries.
Nach dem Krieg blieb von den Schlossdomänen wenig übrig. Von den 50 Schlössern waren gerade einmal 4 nicht beschädigt, 11 waren es, wurden aber im gleichen oder einem anderen Stil wiederaufgebaut. 35 andere Schlösser wurden völlig zerstört. Auf 18 Domänen erschienen neue Gebäude, die sich jedoch grundlegend von dem ursprünglichen Schloss unterschieden. 17 weitere Domänen verschwanden gänzlich. Mit Ausnahme von fünf Domänen änderte sich für alle Schlösser auch die Funktion. Heute finden wir auf den Domänen von vor dem Krieg landwirtschaftliche Nutzung, Waldgebiete, Privatwohnungen mit teilweiser Parzellierung von Bauland, Gästehäuser, ein Pflegezentrum, einen Wasserturm, ein Kloster, einen Golfklub, einen Vergnügungspark. In einer Reihe von Domänen sind die Spuren des Krieges noch sehr präsent, und zwar entweder in Form von Kriegsrelikten oder von Friedhöfen.

It is at the intersection of Meenseweg (National Route 8) and Bellewaardestraat, on the right when traveling west on Meenseweg. This is a series of four markers about the castles of Flanders. They are underneath a bus stop shelter at Hooge Crater Museum. Their location made it difficult to get wide angle photos of the markers. Touch for map.
