Founded in 1918, the Garden Club of Danville was one of eight local garden clubs that together founded the Garden Club of Virginia.

The Garden Club of Danville was originally organized by Gabriella H. Dula. There were 21 charter members, including the wives of some of Danville's wealthiest tobacco and textile business leaders.

For more than a century, the Garden Club of Danville has played an active role in City beautification. They currently oversee cleanup activities along Chambers Street in the Holbrook-Ross Historic District.

6. The Garden Club of Danville
For more than a century, the Garden Club of Danville has played an active role in City beautification. In 1999, the Danville Historic Society presented this award to the Club for preservation activities in Grove Street Cemetery, Danville's oldest burial grounds. The Club was awarded the Garden Club of Virginia's Distinguished Service Medal in 1939 for similar preservation activities in Grove Street Cemetery.
