Inscription. In 1910, the current building at 740 Warm Springs Avenue was constructed for $42,700. The state legislature appropriated $20,000 to construct the building and fundraising efforts by the citizens of Boise provided the remaining funds. Designed by architects J.E. Tourtellote & Company, the 20,0000 sq. ft. Western Colonial Revival building is constructed of solid sandstone, mined from nearby Table Rock Quarry.

The first floor of the building held the main living areas including the kitchen, dining room and living apartments for staff members. On the second floor there were two large open rooms used as sleeping quarters with numerous single beds - one room for the girls and one for the boys. Between those rooms was a large nursery for the babies. Each of these large rooms had outdoor porches which could be used for additional sleeping space when weather permitted. Caretaker apartments and lavatories were also located on this floor.

The second floor also housed the hospital and operating rooms, as well as an isolated room with no inside connection, only an outside entrance, for treating children when they came down with illness or contagious disease. The basement was well lit and finished with large windows. It contained the heating and utilities room, laundry room and living rooms of the caretakers of the building. The

spacious grounds provided plenty of room for the children to play.

The home was dedicated December 28, 1910. The event was attended by representatives of Boise’s most prominent businesses and organizations, clubs, society members and political figures; including Idaho Governor James H. Brady and Boise Mayor Joseph T. Pence.

Four years after the opening of the Boise house, the Society opened a receiving house in Lewiston, Idaho to care for children in the Northern portion of the state.
