Children’s Home Society of Idaho
Historical Timeline
In 1996, national legislation forever altered the role of the Children’s Home Society of Idaho: Foster care was enacted, ultimately making orphanages obsolete. As the country moved toward a new direction of caring for children in need, the Children’s Home Society underwent a gradual and careful transformation. After the last adoption occurred in 1968, the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors enlisted the services of Boise State University faculty to conduct a statewide needs assessment for children. Strong indicators from the assessment pointed toward the lack of emotional and behavioral health programs for youngsters. Therefore, the Society embarked on a new path toward its original mission of caring for disadvantaged children by modifying its approach pertinent to present-day needs.
In 1975, the Children’s Home Society opened Warm Springs Counseling Center, serving thousands of Idaho children with a full spectrum of vital emotional and behavioral health services. The counseling center is the Children’s Home Society’s way of continuing to serve Idaho children by positively affecting the foundations on which they grow-up and build their lives upon.
