Kasteeldomeinen Worden Front
Eind oktober 1914 bereikte de oorlog de kasteeldomeinen. Een tegenaanval van het 2de Worcestershire in het kasteelpark van Geluveld op 31 oktober 1914 hield de Duitse opmars even op. Dezelfde dag werden de staven van de Britse 1ste en 2de divisies getroffen door een beschieting van het kasteel Hooge, hiernaast. Terwijl in het kasteelpark Mahieu in Voormezele / Hollebeke de gevechten een hoogtepunt bereikten. Ze zouden doorgaan tot 1917 en niets meer van het grootse kasteel overbleef. Dat droeve lot trof ook de domeinen Herenthage, Veldhoek (frontlijn na de 1ste Slag bij Ieper) en Hooge (frontlijn na de 2de Slag bij leper). Langemark en Beukenhorst overleefden de gevechten van de ene naar de andere frontlijn niet. Voor het einde van de oorlog vernietigde artillerievuur nog meer dan 20 andere kastelen in de regio.

The Castles In The Front Line
At the end of 1914, war came to the castle country. A counterattack by the 2nd Worcesters in the park of the chateau at Geluveld on 31 October 1914 held up the German advance for a time. On the same day, the staffs of the British 1st and 2nd Divisions were shelled in the castle at Hooge, while the fighting around Chateau Mahieu in Hollebeke reached a new intensity, which ultimately led to its complete destruction. This same sad fate was also shared by the castles at Herenthage, Veldhoek (both in the front line during the First Battle of Ypres) and Hooge in the front line during the Second Battle of Ieper). The castles at Langemark and Beukenhorst likewise fell victim to the shifting tide of battle. Before the end of the war, shelling destroyed more than 20 other castles in the region.

Schlossdomänen Werden Zur Front
Ende Oktober 1914 erreichte der Krieg die Schlossdomänen. Ein Gegenangriff des 2nd Worcestershire im Schlosspark von Geluveld am 31. Oktober 1914 stoppte den Vormarsch der Deutschen für kurze Zeit. Am selben Tag wurden die Stäbe der britischen 1. und 2. Division von einer Beschießung von Schloss Hooge aus getroffen, während in und um Schloss Mahieu in Hollebeke die Kämpfe einen Höhepunkt erreichten. Sie sollten so lange andauern, bis von dem Schloss rein gar nichts mehr verschont blieb. Dieses traurige Los traf auch die Domänen Herenthage, Veldhoek (Frontlinie nach der Ersten Flandernschlacht) und Hooge (Frontlinie nach der Zweiten Flandernschlacht). Auch Langemark und Beukenhorst überlebten die Kämpfe von der einen zur anderen Frontlinie nicht. Bis zum Kriegsende zerstörte Artilleriefeuer noch mehr als 20 weitere Schlösser in der Region.
