Born a short distance from this place, he later practiced law here

Responded to the Lexington Alarm as a colonel in April, 1775. Retired as a major general in July, 1782. Charter member, American Union Lodge, and master thereof, 1779. Elected master St. John's Lodge No. 2 February, 1783. Instrumental in formation of the Grand Lodge State of Connecticut.

Dedicated this 28th day of September, 1980 by the brothers of the Grand Lodge, the Seventh Masonic District and Pythagoras Lodge No. 45.
