What are these structures and why are they here?
These concrete structures were foundations for the water towers used along freight rail lines in the 1930's and 40's. Water was taken from Four Mile Lake and stored in the water tower and used by steam engines. Engines could load water along this segment of track without stopping. This allowed the train to carry less water and more payload.
